Salal
Neighborhood

15 Homes

Salal, the Home Trust’s first neighborhood, consists of 15 single-family homes on 2.4 acres on Carter Avenue in Friday Harbor. To maintain affordability, the Home Trust partnered with a modular building company for the first 10 homes, which were factory-built to standard building codes, transported to the site in sections, and placed on their foundations with a crane. The final phase, consisting of five custom-built homes, was completed at the same cost per house, mirroring the first phase’s design.

The two- and three-bedroom homes range from 1,100 to 1,300 sq. ft. and are designed to resemble traditional island farmhouses while being energy-efficient. Construction began in 2003 and was completed in 2006.
